-To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person   you meet.
-To make all your friends feel that there is something in     them.
-To look at the sunny side of everything and make your     optimism come true.
-To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and   to expect only the best.
-To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others     as you are about your own.
-To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the     greater achievements of the future.
-To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give       every living creature you meet a smile.
-To give so much time to the improvement of yourself       that you have no time to criticize others.

To Read Me Is To Know Me
By Lee Ann Mersol
My husband asked me if I’d like to go to a dinner with him on a
Sunday evening. It was the Optimist Club’s annual dinner and get
together and since I didn’t get to go last year I thought it would
be wise to go this year! As I sit here writing this article for
all of you to read I have to tell you that I am so glad that I did
go because one, I met the nicest people that night and two, I learned
so much. Especially what an Optimist is and no, it’s not an eye doctor!!
I was welcomed into the beautiful and friendly home of Ginny and Dick Younger.
I was very surprised at the warmth and friendliness these strangers showed me
instantly. I had a wonderful dinner and there was lively conversation all
evening. These new friends of mine were so open and caring that it made me
feel like sharing part of my life with them and so I did. I talked about
my life, my pets and mainly my children. In return I learned that this
group of people care for the same things in life that I do… me, my community,
and my children.
During the meeting part of the evening I sat back and listened. I heard
each of these people give ideas on what would be best for the community,
the children, and the schools. What ideas they could come up with to get
the word out to the people about the Optimists and what the Optimist Club
could do for the community and kids. But there was still one big burning
question in my mind, what was an Optimist? Are there people out there who
were like me who didn’t know the answer either? Should I ask and risk
looking like a dummy in front of these knowledgeable people? And then I
thought what my parents taught me, it can’t hurt to ask, so I did....
The Optimist Club is an association dedicated to ‘Bringing out the best
in kids’. Our Optimist Club conducts service projects aimed at providing
a helping hand to youth. With their upbeat attitude, the Optimist Club
members help empower young people to be the best they can be.
As I remember each new friend I met that night, I have to ask myself...
do I need to wait till I am older to help my children and grandchildren
that are to come? Why can’t I do it now? Yes, these people were a little
older (and wiser) than I and are still helping their children and
grandchildren. And very proudly I might add!! I’d like to be that proud
parent now...wouldn’t you?
